Analyze the principles and advantages of GPRS communication used in weather stations

Nowadays, our demand for meteorological data is getting higher and higher. For example, when we go out to play, we need to understand the ecological environment and meteorological environment elements of the scenic spot. The relevant departments need to understand the meteorological conditions of highways to ensure driving safety. Farmers need Understand more accurate weather information such as temperature and precipitation to determine when to plant or harvest. Schools also need to obtain meteorological data to help students understand nature and expand their horizons. For the acquisition of weather data, we also have more advanced equipment-weather station.

The weather station can collect meteorological elements such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, noise, light, ultraviolet rays, rainfall, evaporation, etc., and upload the collected data to the monitoring platform in real time. RJ45 network port upload, GPRS upload, 4G upload and other methods. In this article, we mainly understand the more common GPRS communication.

1. Brief introduction of GPRS communication method

GPRS is the abbreviation of General Packet Radio System (General Packet Radio System). It is a technology between the second and third generations, usually called 2.5 G. GPRS adopts the same frequency band, bandwidth, burst structure, wireless modulation standard, frequency hopping rules and the same TDMA frame structure as GSM. Therefore, when the GPRS system is built on the basis of the GSM system, most of the components in the GSM system do not need to be modified in hardware, but only need to be upgraded in software. With GPRS, the user's call setup time is greatly shortened, and it can almost be 'always online'. In addition, GPRS is billed based on the amount of data transmitted by the operator rather than the connection time, so the service cost for each user is lower.

2. Basic working principle

GPRS is the introduction of two new network nodes on the original circuit-switched GSM network: GPRS Service Support Node (SGSN) and Gateway Support Node (GGSN). SGSN and MSC are at the same level, and track the storage unit of a single MS to implement security functions and access control, and connect to the base station system through frame relay. GGSN supports intercommunication with external packet-switched networks, and connects with SGSN via an IP-based GPRS backbone network.

The GPRS terminal obtains data from the weather station through the interface, and sends the processed GPRS packet data to the GSM base station. After the packet data is encapsulated by the SGSN, the SGSN communicates with the gateway supporting point GGSN through the GPRS backbone network. The GGSN processes the packet data accordingly, and then sends it to the destination network, such as the Internet or X.25 network.

If the packet data is sent to another GPRS terminal, the data is sent to the SGSN by the GPRS backbone network, and then sent to the GPRS terminal via the BSS.

3. Advantages of GPRS communication

1. Wide coverage

The station is located in a remote area and geographically dispersed, but the GPRS network has covered all parts of the country. Two networks of 2G/4G can be selected at will, which can meet the coverage requirements of the weather station.

2. High data transmission rate

The data transmission volume of each weather station is within 10Kbps. At present, the actual data transmission rate of GPRS is about 40Kbps.

3. The communication cost is low

The use of wired mode to transmit information must be equipped with a dedicated line to connect, and the cost is high, while using GPRS wireless communication mode, you only need to charge according to the data flow rate, and the resource utilization rate is High, using 2G communication network, the minimum is only 30 yuan per month.

4. Support IP protocol and X.25 protocol

GPRS supports the most widely used IP protocol and X.25 protocol on the Internet, and because of the wide coverage of GSM network, GPRS can provide Internet and other packet networks Global wireless access.
