Recommendations for carbon monoxide sensor selection
Carbon monoxide sensor plays an important role in industrial, agricultural and atmospheric environment detection. Under normal conditions, carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and insoluble in water gas, commonly known as 'invisible killer.'

Winter is the prone and high incidence of carbon monoxide poisoning incidents. According to national monitoring data in the past five years, non-occupational carbon monoxide poisoning occurs mainly in households, accounting for 95.8% of all non-occupational carbon monoxide poisoning incidents. In mild cases, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, tinnitus, and vertigo; in severe cases, death can be caused by hypoxic failure of the heart, lung, and brain, which is clinically called acute carbon monoxide poisoning.

So how can we accurately sense whether the concentration of carbon monoxide in our environment exceeds the standard? Especially in some confined places, special attention needs to be paid to changes in the concentration of carbon monoxide. So how to make accurate detection?

Carbon monoxide sensors mainly include oxide semiconductor, catalytic combustion, and electrochemical gas sensors, as well as a small number of other types, such as thermal linear and solid electrolyte gas sensors. These sensors all produce chemical or electrochemical reactions on the surface of the sensor through the adsorption of combustible gas in the surrounding environment, which causes the electrical output characteristics of the sensor to change, and realizes the alarm function after circuit processing. The working principle of each type of sensor is different, which causes its working characteristics to be different. For different measured gases, it is necessary to select a more suitable gas sensor to exert its better performance.

The following are three suggestions for the selection of carbon monoxide sensors:

①For the detection of carbon monoxide gas leakage, especially for household places, when the concentration of carbon monoxide is low, it is required to be able to detect it quickly. A single point alarm can be achieved. The semiconductor sensor detection process only involves the adsorption and desorption process of gas. Severe oil fume in the kitchen rarely remains on the surface of sensitive materials and will not affect its actual service life. Therefore, the lower detection limit and longer service life of semiconductor gas sensors are A better choice for home alarms.

②The catalytic combustion type carbon monoxide sensor has high accuracy and is suitable for quantitative detection in coal, petroleum, chemical, gas and other fields. But its working temperature is high, the catalyst is easy to deactivate, and at the same time, the silicone and sulfide released by the adhesive and rubber products in the surrounding environment can easily poison the catalyst and cause the sensor to completely fail. In industrial sites, the standard gas is generally used to periodically check the alarm to adjust the magnification to prevent the sensitivity of the catalytic sensor from degrading and the accuracy is greatly deteriorated. However, in general household use, it is basically maintenance-free, and cooking fumes are on sensitive materials. Surface burning will produce serious carbon deposits, so the life of the gas alarm using catalytic sensors will not exceed three years. If the house has undergone renovation during the period of use of the alarm, its life will be shortened to one year.

③For the detection of low-concentration carbon monoxide in the process of artificial gas and incomplete combustion, due to the high toxicity of carbon monoxide, the alarm point is generally not more than 200ppm. In order to prevent false alarms or missed alarms, it is better to choose higher sensitivity and accuracy. Electrochemical gas sensor.

After more than 40 years of historical development in the market, the carbon monoxide sensor has been continuously improved. In the past, a carbon monoxide sensor and a carbon monoxide alarm were required for linkage monitoring, but now, the carbon monoxide sensor can complete the two tasks of monitoring and alarming by itself.
